American Gem Society

American Gem Society

The American Gem Society is the country’s preeminent jewelry trade organization dedicated to consumer protection.  Founded by Robert M. Shipley and several other leading jewelers and gemologists in 1934, the American Gem Society is a not-for-profit trade association of over 3,500 jewelers, retailers, suppliers, individual titleholders and affiliates. These members have dedicated themselves to:
·    Consumer protection
·    Ethical business practices
·    Development and maintenance of superior gemological skills and knowledge

To qualify for membership in the American Gem Society, a firm must meet the highest standards of business conduct. A member firm can, and will be, expelled for unethical or deceptive practices. To ensure excellence in our Society, individuals must pass examinations on diamonds and colored gemstones before advertising their AGS membership. Every member firm must have at least one Certified Gemologist on staff, the highest accreditation in the jewelry industry.  This process ensures that every AGS-certified jeweler you meet is at the top of their game, and more importantly, each one has pledged to protect you, the consumer.

Customer Testimonial – Michelle and David Topper

My boyfriend and I got engaged in 2010.  It was the second time around for both of us and we were looking for something really special.  We chose Bay Street Jewelers because we have had a long relationship with Mark as our jeweler.  My birthday presents come from there.  We buy baby gifts from there.  Any time we want something really unique we go to Bay Street Jewelers.

Mark was incredibly patient as he walked us through the diamond buying process.  What I got exceeded all of my expectations.  Mark bought my diamond while on his buying trip in Europe, combing the various diamond dealers in Antwerp.  This eliminated the middle man and gave us more diamond for the dollar.  His buying diligence and total understanding of what we were looking for brought me something really, really extraordinary.

I love my ring!!  I get nothing but compliments on it from everyone who sees it.  I tell them all how terrific Mark and Bay Street Jewelers are to deal with, especially when you want something exceptional.  I know all our future purchases will come from Mark and the folks at Bay Street Jewelers.
